Maria Temming is a writer and editor with nearly a decade of experience translating scientific endeavors into engaging stories for wide audiences. Though she specializes in covering the physical sciences, she has also written award-winning stories in the life and social sciences.

As the Assistant Managing Editor of Science News Explores, a magazine for kids and teens, Maria spends most of her time finding new ways to make research feel exciting and relevant to young readers. In addition to writing and editing articles, she experiments with other story forms such as comics and vertical videos. She occasionally writes for Science News, where she was formerly a physical sciences reporter.

Maria has undergraduate degrees in physics and English from Elon University and a master’s degree in science writing from MIT.

In her spare time, Maria enjoys reporting on fandom activities and communities.
